No More Ghost

Post by Alexander Meadows on Fri Jan 10, 2014 8:23 pm

It sprang to life within the wilderness of Ioda, somewhere between Sklira and Draconis- a portal to another world in its entirety, ever shifting and sleepless. No man or woman had yet passed through its confines, though somewhere in the middle of the forest lay a hapless individual that had tempted something far beyond his mortal station, and brought his plane into contact with something that only skimmed its edges prior. A new land of souls and entrapment. To some worlds, this was were their dead were brought. To others, this was where the evil lay dormant until a day of reckoning.

Every night at about three in the morning, when the sun hid its face behind the horizon its arrival was heralded by the gusting of the wind, the rustling of leaves, and a quiet wail. The smell of sulfur hung in the air, clinging to the bark and the grass that the air would not pry it from its mother. A soft, eerie light spilled forth from this void, and those who looked into it would see something that lingered beyond the gate. A tower, twisting and tail, defying architecture and reaching past a point of visibility.

From the gate, it was just a single step into this realm of the dead. Beyond that, a straight shot on a path that defied reality and bent gravity, spiraling out of control towards the tower's base, and towards the Great Prisoner. A fallen king with his arms bound in chains, his metallic arm gleaming in the underworld's acidic lighting. His other arm was deformed by chains that wrapped around it and seemed to melt into his very flesh, and dangling from his wrist was more chain connected to the hilt of a sword bearing a gleaming black blade like the fangs of a dead predator.

His hair hung in maded clumps and stood frayed, slick with grease and dust. From beneath that mess of tangled hair was one glowing eye, staring patiently into the darkness while carrying the burden of a heavy scowl. His face was dirty and oiled, and the only discernible patterns in the filth came from the man's eyes. From there, it became obvious that he wept fairly often, leaving a clean streak down the crevice of his face. His nose stood pointedly at the interior of his hair, peeking out to see if all was clear.

Then, like clockwork, she appeared with her mocking ways of speech, her sensual tongue that dripped with malice and lies. If for each time she had come she'd carved out just a sliver of his heart, nothing of it would remain. She came several times a day in the beginning, creating illusions to torment him of the loved ones destroyed, the friends left dead, and one particularly cruel day allowing him to believe he was free. He was certain that would become her new favorite method of emotional torture. He was wrong.

Every day, at the same time, whatever hour it was, she appeared. In her wake she brought the illusion of a field of corpses, and Alexander was strung above them by his chains, kneeling to the ground much as he did now over them. Then, he would hear it. A whispering at first, a prayer. Then, his eyes would see their mouths move. Their voices would start to rise. "Long live Alexander," the dead would cry, "Long live the Hero King!" For what seemed like hours, they would continue the chanting. This was his hell: the constant wishes by these imaginary nightmares that he would have everlasting life. It was a mockery.

Alexander couldn't die, regardless of how much he begged the moment to come. He had not given up his hope, but traded it in for acceptance. Beneath the cries came something reliable, something that kept him sane. The noise that it had never occurred to the Goddess to cancel out. Alexander had never stopped counting it, even for a second. Even when he believed he was free, he counted out of habit.

Bum-bum

Bum-bum

One year. Three months. Seventeen days. Two hours. Fifty-Eight minutes. Fifty-Nine seconds.

Bum-bum

Fifty-nine minutes. The cries died down, and the goddess departed once more leaving her prey to stare into the darkness. It was almost time. Everyday for the past month at this time, he caught a glimmer of light in the distance. He wondered if it was simply Eris' cruelest trick of all. Nothing more vile could she have done than give him a light in the darkness so consistently, so without fail and yet without any mention of its existence or further gloating he would never reach it. Nothing more sick than that, and yet... worse, it gave him something fleeting and fragile to grasp a hold of, and wish with all his might that his hell would end, and the life he had been denied would be reimbursed.

Bum-bum

Three hours. In this distance, the door opened once more...

Astral was finally in Iota but she feared it might already be too late. It was only three days till the spell Astral stuck on Eroan would wear off. He had taken too long to finally agree and now Astral didn't think she could get the things she needed in time. The two flew over the forest when something caught Astral's eye. Below was some very odd looking person and a portal. Astral dived down landed on the ground near the strange man and got right up in his face. "You dim witted human do you have any idea what you might have done? Portals are advance and dangerous spells that should never be attempted by the natives of Megalo. You have no idea if that portal might have opened to a different dimension and what dangerous creatures might step out." She lectured him.

Though he had put it off for as long as he could since he was not completely sure he wanted to remain like this given that it would change his life forever, Eroan had finally given into Astral taking him to Iota so they could get the things she needed to make it permanent. Flying along side her over the forest he shifts his gaze and scans the area around them, letting Astral lead the way since she knew where to go and he had no clue. When she began to descend he looks to her and slowly begins to follow after her, his gaze catching some strange looking portal and someone standing next to it. Following after her he begins to wonder if this was where they needed to go. However as he comes to land close to Astral he listens to her as she spoke to the person, seeming to lecture them or fuss at them about what they were doing, though he had no clue what they were doing with a strange portal.

The man that Astral lectured wasn't totally lucid. He hadn't been for the span of a month. Since the moment he'd performed the ritual his sanity had slipped away and he began to become more and more feral. A creature of impulse and habit, he feed on the raw animals that he could manage to catch and whetted his teeth against their bones. He stared back into Astral with an empty expression, his eyes wide and wild.

"Shhhh," he told her, "shhhhhhhh." He brought his finger to his mouth as his gaze fixed itself evenly with hers. "Can't you hear the gate's lament?" He broke eye contact and turned his head towards it. "Something sleeps inside. Something powerful. Something frighting." He turned his eyes back to her, the tears starting. "I can feel it. I felt it for so long. It's so simple... the rawest speck of hope coming from these ancient lands. All the voices danced in my head, and I couldn't drown them out."

The man's face made these words seem like the ravings of a mad man, which in honesty they were. His facial hair had grown unkempt and wild, and was caked in the blood of animals. His teeth were yellowed and chipped, and beyond that hair covered the rest of his face. He pushed away from the woman and and huddled against the tree behind them, pressing so hard against it he seemed to be trying to enter into it.

"Just a nightmare," he spat as he clutched his hair and pulled. "Nightmares! Nightmares! The screaming of the world of the dead!" He looked at the two, almost as if he didn't see them. He pointed at the portal behind them and cried, "Gaze upon the twisted tower! Within the confines of hell itself lies something so horrible..." he crawled forward suddenly on his hands and knees, beginning to sob. "...even the gods are afraid of him, and for what purpose?!"

Re: No More Ghost

Post by Astral on Sat Jan 11, 2014 8:33 am

Astral's intense anger for this humans recklessness and endangerment of her home began to fade as she realized nobody this crazy could have possibly created that portal. He must be some lunatic that came by. Still his words troubled her. Astral turned around to stare into the portal. Astral didn't have the skill in magic to close it herself. She would have to call an emergency dragon meeting and grab someone else to close it. Someone needed to stay here and stand guard unless anything came out. The lunatic wasn't an option and neither was Eraon. He may be a half dragon now but he didn't inherit a dragons magic quality's.

Looking into the portal she saw a tower which meant that whatever dwelled there had intelligence. Astral decided the best course of action was to engage in diplomacy. Astral then stepped into the portal not knowing if the others would follow her or not.

As the man spoke after Astral had lectured him, Eroan got the distinct impression that he was not all there in the head area. Not only did he spout what sounded like a load of gibberish but his appearance and way he acted did nothing to help him seem any less crazy. Seeing the man like this, Eroan thought it may be best if they were on there way since they had things to take care of given the fact she wanted to make him permanently like this. He watches the man as he begins to push into a tree as if he was trying to enter it.

As he begins to speak of nightmares Eroan turns his attention from the man, glancing to the portal for a moment as he felt it was time for the two of them to go. Glancing back towards the man as he spoke more Eroan took a step or two back, having decided that it was indeed time to leave. Though he thought it was time for the two of them to leave as he looks to Astral it appeared that she did not feel the same way, rather she steps into the portal. Seeing Astral step into the portal Eroan knew that he could not let her go on ahead alone though he wanted to scold her for stepping into the portal. " Are you serious.. " He grumbles lightly and follows after her, " Astral you can't just step into some crazy portal like that! We could be killed. " he says as he tries to grab her wrist. He was not sure if they could get out now though he was going to try and move back through the portal with her.

Re: No More Ghost

Post by Alexander Meadows on Sat Jan 11, 2014 8:08 pm

This sensation... what was it he was feeling? From the light in the distance where his gaze lay fixated, he could feel something that he hadn't for a long time: souls. Doubt. Something akin to rage. From all the way over here his starved body lapped at the little waves of emotions as these small beings trampled over his sensory area. Their feelings were feeding him, and for the first time in a long time, he felt strength returning to him in small ebbs.

It had been months sense Alexander had stood, and yet, he rose against his chains, and they clattered in the silence of the underworld, their clangs heralding his movement. He tried to talk, but his voice was meek still. He had not spoken longer than he had not been upon his feet, and all that came from his throat was a dry wheeze. He could not call out to these mortal souls, so instead, he began to whip his arms, feeling his hunger fade.

The chains clanged, like tolling bells. Alexander's head was still bowed, but his pale body, its toned form, and all the scars from his past life as a man had been revealed. The rhythmic banging of the metal against stone, of his metal sword and chains against the chains of of Tartarus were his distress call. Bang, Bang, Bang, bang, all in the perfect beat. Every few seconds they would cry out again, a metal lighthouse to guide to him a lifeboat.

Eris could deceive his eyes. She could fill his ears with the moans of the dead, his nostrils with pungent flesh and the singed smell of sulfur, his skin with the touch of his lover long-dead and the taste of blood dripping from his tongue. But she had never managed to deceive his sixth sense. It had always been present, and it had never lead him astray like his mortal sensations. He stared at the light, his arms working their hardest in the broken quiet to draw attention.

Astral chuckled at Eroan's comment. "I'm a half dragon I can't be killed by anyone but the natives of Iota." She said arrogantly. Then she heard voices in her head. "What!" she exclaimed out loud. Astral had an uncountable number of spells on her that prevented people from entering her mind. Yet hear they were. "It is no ones fault you are what you are. You are the offspring of love so powerful it overcame the species boundary." The voices said. Astral could feel herself starting to get woozy. "You however have harboured feelings of hatred toward people who have every right to hate you. You have even forced your will upon an innocent so that he may know what it's like to be in your position. For that you will be punished." Suddenly Astral passed out and fell over. Her wings, tail, ears, everything dragon about her was fading away. Soon she was 100% human clothed in worn and tattered clothing. Here eyes were now a deep blue the color that they were before she first started turning into a dragon.

Though he knew she could handle herself he on the other hand may be half dragon though he was not as skilled at being one as she is given she has been this way for longer then almost two weeks. As she exclaims he looks to her " Uhh... I have a bad feeling about this. " He murmurs lightly as he watches her, not liking the idea of being in here. Keeping his gaze fixed on her he waits for a response though she had fallen silent which made him wonder what was going on. Out of the blue she passes out, falling to the ground which made him begin to grow worried as he watches her body begin to change. Right before his eyes she changes from a half dragon back into a human now clothed unlike he. " A-Astral... " he murmurs lightly as he gazes down at her, not sure what had just happened though it had yet to happen to him.

Alexander opened his mouth, attempting to speak but find that his voice still had yet to dully return. Speaking was just a rasp of words, and still the chains proved to be more reliable than his tongue. The banging continued, while Alexander could still feel their emotions empowering him as his hunger had already set itself aside. He started to whip his arms forward even harder, trying to make the noise louder that these visitors would hear him.

Astral's eye opened to the sound of metal rubbing against metal. She looked up to see Eraon looking down on her. There was something wrong though. She couldn't see him very well. She could still see him but she couldn't spot every single detail on his face. Something was really weird she didn't feel right. It wasn't that she felt sick something just felt wrong. "Eroan." She said to him. "I feel different." She still hadn't realized she was missing some limbs. "And whats that obnoxious metal sound." Had Astral still have dragon hearing it would have been even more irritating. Astral tried to get up but for some reason her balance was off. That's when she noticed she couldn't feel her tail. Turning her head sharply to examine her back side all she saw was delicate human clothing. "What am I wearing?" She said looking down at herself. She was wearing clothing but why and why could she feel it. Normally when she wore clothing her she never noticed because of her scales. Then Astral looked at her hands and after she saw her hands she clutched her face with them. "Oh god I'm having a nightmare!" Astral yelled trying to get up. "Ok I'll wake up any second now. You always wake up after you realize your dreaming." Astral turned to Eraon. "Wake me up!" She yelled at him.

With his gaze set on Astral he could hear the sound of metal hitting metal as it grew more louder though not very loud, it was though irritating to his senses. Seeing her begin to wake up he was not sure how she would react to what has happened to her and not sure what he could do to help her. " I'm not sure what it is... " He murmurs lightly as he watches her. It did not seem like she realized at first but as she does he gets the idea that it isn't something she likes. As she starts to scream he frowns faintly, knowing that he could not wake her because it was not a nightmare. With the irritation from the metal and her yelling Eroan narrows his gaze as he grows a bit angry and growls lightly at her, " This is not a dream! " he snaps at her growling louder.

Astral's shock turned to anger as Eraon revealed to her this was no nightmare it was worse than a nightmare. Astral's shock turned to anger. Her hand clenched and her body tensed. She slammed her fists on Eroan's chest but he probably barely felt it. "No I can't be human. I hate humans!" She said angerly. "I was a dragon I shouldn't be a filthy human." She said continually pounding her fists on Eroan's chest. Then Astral's mood shifted again and she grew very sad. She slumped down on her knees and bowed her head tears were streaming down her face. "I don't want to be a human."

As she slammed her fists against his chest he watches her, not effected by her fists hitting him though as she spoke her words angered him more. Though he was half dragon now he was human and still felt that way and here she was saying she hated humans. Shifting his gaze it follows her as she sinks to her knees before him with tears running down her face. Gazing down at her he growls again as his anger begins to show " .. This is your fault, all of it. " He says in an angry tone as he gazes down at her. As he gazes down at her his tail comes around and shifts under her chin to lift her head so she would be looking up at him.

" .. This is your fault, all of it. " As Eroan said this Astral remembered what the voices in her head told her before she passed out. "It is my fault isn't it?" She said with sorrowful face. Eraon had forced her to look into his eyes with his tail. She didn't fight it not that she could. Looking at Eraon's scaly face only made her more sad. "I'm sorry. I won't push you to make your changes permanent any more." She said before slumping on to her side. "Just leave me to die." She said practically forgetting he was her mate. She even still has the mark on her left shoulder.

Gazing down into her eyes as she is forced to look up at him. He nods faintly to her comment about it being her fault. She had made him this way before, something he still deep down was angry at her for though now she had brought them to this place which seemed to have made her like this As she slumps to her side he growls at her again, his tail shifting to try and pick her up. " Now you get to experience life as a human and I am not going to let you die here. You may be human but you are my human, now get up. "

Eraon said a few sweet words to her before slipping his tail under her and helping her up. "I already have experienced life as a human and I hated it. It was fine when it was just my mom and me in our cave but as soon as the humans drove her off I hated it. I suppose I can bear it if I'm with you though." Astral said snuggling up against Eraon. The sound of chains tore her mind back to the other situation at hand. "I'm sick of those chains lets go find them so we can shut up whatever is making that sound." Astral said heading to the sound. She found an oddly shaped human chained up. "Hey can you tell us if anyone lives here?" She asked Alex (yea I'm shortening it IC too.)

It seemed his comment had helped her in some way though the sound of the chains caught her attention again as well. As she lead the way he follows after her, still angry at her though for the time being he remains silent while wondering how long this would last. She had changed when she went through the portal so would she change when going back through it? As they come upon a human that appeared to be chained up he narrows his gaze as he looks at the figure, having a bad feeling about the situation. First Astral turned into a human and now they come across someone chained up. " Astral... I think it would be better if we left. " He says as he looks to Astral.

He could feel it: utter, complete despair. He hated this part of his existence. Feeding off of misery and its ilk like a depraved monster, growing stronger from their suffering... it was wrong. It was very wrong, and yet he had no control over his body's automatic responses. It was in the distance he heard the cry, unable to make out what was spoken but at the same time engulfing the buffet of anguish. He banged the chains again, and could feel his restraints beginning to weaken. Weakening was not the same as breaking, however.

It must have minutes that he pulled, and could feel the two from before drawing closer. A little bit of glee rose in his heart-- from the earlier emotions, he surmised that maybe something had befallen one or both of them. Instead, the brave souls had pressed forward regardless of circumstance and they were coming this way. The chains banged over and over, until a voice had climbed over the noise. "Hey," the voice called, "can you tell us if anybody lives here?"

The other in the area was full of doubt, and Alexander's wicked, glowing eye pierced from beneath his hair, shattering the darkness with its neon-blue color. "Astral... I think it would be better if we left."

Alexander stood silent for only a moment. "Only I live here," Alexander replied, "but many things other than myself reside in the land of the dead." He never raised his face to observe them directly, noting that one of them seemed to be human. He focused his attention on her and did not concern himself with the other just yet. "I have prayed for these months that I would be sent mercy angels," Alexander's low voice assured them in a calm manner. "But it would seem you are not here to kill me. Yet, you have come from outside this place..." He banged the chains again, and the stone behind them started to give with a loud crack, pulling them forward somewhat. "Are you visitors? Or something more?"

Astral had to agree the man was creepy but he was being friendly and answering their questions. "Um I just came in here for diplomacy but from what your telling me that isn't going to work. Do you mind telling us how to get out of here cuz I don't want to be trapped a human and be trapped in here at the same time. That's like double trapped." Astral said. She then noticed his chains were breaking. "Your not a criminal are you? Why are you chained up?" Astral asked. Though she was human now here sense of invincibility had still not gone away. She still thought of herself as superior to everyone else even if she was far less so now. She may still have all her magical ability but physically she was as weak as a... well as a human.

Though he voiced his idea to leave it seem to fall upon deaf ears, however he felt he could not simply leave Astral behind, not yet at least, though she had made him angry. The man spoke which caused Eroan to glance to him for a moment, glancing over the chains that bind him. One could only wonder why someone was bound in what seemed like another place not like the one they are from, were they bad or were they good? Turning his gaze from the man he glances around for a moment, scanning the area for any form of clue as to who the man is and why he is trapped here. As he glances round he idliy listens to Astral and the man speak, however as he hears the loud cracking of stone he turns his gaze back to the man quickly. It seemed he was breaking free of his bonds which caused Eroan to take a few steps back to put some space between himself and the chained man since he was not sure if he was friend or foe.

"Double trapped..." Alexander started to chuckle. "You're a funny human," he insisted. "I've not met many humans who have made me laugh before." He started to gently apply pressure to his bonds, and the chains around his wrists began to groan with agony while the stone behind started to crack. "I am a criminal," Alexander explained to the two of them, and his voice suddenly taking on a much darker tone.

"I have been bound because I have committed the most atrocious sin of all, and the gods feel both too afraid and too guilty to correct my mistake." He stepped forward, and the stone gave on his one arm, pulling it free. He paused for a moment, drawing himself up to his full height and revealing the months of dirt caked upon his body as his eyes examined his now free hand. A gentle tug from his other arm brought his other restraint free.

He smiled, and began to walk forward between the two of them. "This path that you entered through... it lasts between half-an-hour to an hour each time it opens," he explained. "You will need to exit it before it closes or you will be trapped here for yet another day." He did not cast a backwards glance or otherwise indicate them as he spoke, focusing now on his one objecting: leaving hell. "You do not want to be here. If you had any uncertainty or doubt prior then let yourself be cleansed. I have no desire to harm or wreck havoc upon either of you." He let his arms hang with his chains, dragging them through the dirt. "As long as we all dwell in this place, consider yourselves my charges whom I will let no harm befall."

Re: No More Ghost

Astral was stunned. This man revealed himself as a criminal and the way he made it sound he sounded like a really bad one at that. Yet he promised not to harm them and actually even protect them. "I'm not a human." Astral said bitterly before saying what she was actually planning on saying. "Well the natives can't be reason'd with. Not exactly unexpected news. So yea I'm ready to get out of here." Astral said before heading off to where they came.

Looking up at the man Eroan listens to him as he spoke identifying himself as a criminal which did not sit well with Eroan given how Astral was so willing to let him free. Not only was he a criminal but it sounded as if he had done something extremely bad to be put in here. Once he is finally free Eroan expected him to perhaps begin attacking them or do something that would threaten he or Astral.

As the man walks towards them he shifts to the side some and watches him, listening as he begins to speak of there predicament. Listening to him he now seen that he should have taken Astral and left before they came deeper into this area. Now they had to deal with him though he spoke of not being a threat, and make there way out before being locked in here.

He spoke of not letting any harm come to them as long as they are in here though he did not want to stay in here long. Glancing to Astral as she spoke up, he agreed with the idea of getting out of here though he was still upset with her. " .. You already know how I feel about this place. " He says with a light grumble as he looks at Astral a moment longer before looking to the man, addressing him " Will we have to worry about any threats on our way back? " he asks as he looks at the man, though he was not sure about the man he had been in here so he knew more about the place.

Alexander did not break his stride, or turn his head towards either of the two behind him as his voice rang out, addressing them each in turn. "Denial will be your destruction," he replied to the woman plainly. "Acceptance, your salvation. These are the facts all must come to learn in their lives." He slowly started to rotate his muscles, stretching the unmoved joints and letting them pop, from shoulders to neck. The loud cracks resounded through the underworld, as he laughed gently.

"Of course we will," Alexander replied. "Nothing in all of existence that is aware of what I am wants me to leave this place." He kept a steady pace as the group neared the doorway of light, its gleam catching the metallic exoskeleton on his arm and letting it shine dimly, the texture of iron and bone seeming to be present within the object. "That is why I am in the front, and you will stay behind me unless I otherwise dictate. Unless you have a death wish, that is."

His response may have seemed cocky, but it was knowledge that made him speak this way. These beings behind him were charged with negative emotion and had only contributed to his strength growing. While it was mainly sporadic in content, what remained consistent was that neither of them were thrilled with being in this place. From their actions that much could be assumed, and from the Sin Energy seeping off of their bodies such could be confirmed. "Cerberus is waiting for me," he stated calmly. "I will kill it and we will leave."
